Marveling at the options for Mother’s Day!

Here’s a news flash for everyone out there – this year marks the 100 anniversary of Mother’s Day! For those of you wondering how this grand holiday was officially established in the US, you can thank Anna Jarvis, an unmarried woman who was childless, from Grafton, West Virginia. Following the death of her own mother, Anna wanted to find a way to honor all mothers who make sacrifices for their children. She campaigned hard, and in 1914 President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May officially “Mother’s Day. Initially, the celebration involved wearing a simple white carnation and visiting one’s mother or attending church, this holiday is celebrated today with a vengeance by the American public with gifts of love.

After all, no matter what, your mom is your mom. Hopefully she is there to support you through thick and thin, but even if she isn’t, she is the person responsible for you being on this planet. How you plan to spend your Mother’s Day is unique to you, but if you don’t live close by, Local Pickins has discovered 10 marvelous gifts for sending to your favorite, food-loving mom, no matter what part of the US she lives in.
